Come to the Isle of Portland’s most unique and exciting Christmas Event!
Christmas is coming and the Friends of Portland Museum, in partnership with our writer in residence Sarah Acton, are presenting a unique and exciting festive event to be held in the characterful 17th century Stone Room at Portland Museum. On Thursday 12th December, from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm, Sarah and Friends will be hosting a speakeasy night in conversation with Island men who currently work, and have worked in the past, with Portland stone. In a rare opportunity to hear and participate in exclusive memories and stories shared, they will host an informal Q&A session with quarrymen who knew open cast mining, pre-mechanisation. This event is part of the Heart of Stone project inspired by Skylark Durston’s appearance in the Look Stranger! Heart of Stone TV programme (1971). As some of you may remember from previous Heart of Stone discussion cafés at the museum, Portland’s own rock stars enthralled audiences and provided a genuinely fascinating and highly entertaining insight into pre-mechanisation quarrying on the Island. This is a night not to be missed. If you would like to attend, then please email or give us a call on 01305 860262 to let us know how many of you are coming. Mulled wine and mince pies (with a soft drink alternative) are included in the ticket price of £5.00 (£4.00 for FoPM members).
